DJ Todd developed the idea of creating a throwback cut paying homage to Ohio in late 2010. At the Guru Salute release party, he noticed that the crowd still responded to old school beats and rhymes more than most of the popular music of today. He began searching for the perfect combination of MCs to be featured on the project.
Fans will recognize Arrogant and Nick Fury as artists previously working with DJ Todd who both blazed the track. Originally, Ted Williams was sought after for the introduction but could not be located (he was in rehab). Long time friend and radio/voice mogul Ed Spillers comes correct with a cinematic introduction like no other. Creating more excitement, Columbus Ohio underground sensation Copywrite also contributed a verse. DJ Todd was introduced to Cleveland's own Rhyme & Reason, two talented MCs from Cleveland who are also featured on the track.
Dayton's own Status Flo was recommended for the track who provided yet another style adding more flavor. Former DJ Todd bandmate (yes Todd plays guitar), T. Prez debuts on his first released rap recording. It became difficult to find an artist to contribute to the Diana Ross break, but once DJ Todd found King Ls from Columbus, it was a match made in heaven. New up and comers Spade Ace and Ty Spacely from Dayton end the track keeping the party vibe high.
DJ Todd also wanted a hook sang at the end of the track. Long time friends Soul One offered their talent. To create the magic with harmony, Cleveland's Kit added her magic to the track.
Overall, a total of 12 artists contributed to the project which has been highly anticipated.
